Los Patos beach, located in Barahona, in the south of the Dominican Republic, has been included in the list of “13 of the best beaches in the Caribbean”, by the travel and tourism magazine Lonely Planet.
The selection includes the best beaches with palm-fringed bays, shallow reefs teeming with tropical fish, and inviting Caribbean locations. It also mentions islands boasting crystal-clear waters and warm climates.
Los Patos Beach is described by the publication as one of the best for “experienced surfers.” Located on the Paraíso road, it is popular for its “pebble” beach (a shoreline composed mainly of small stones rather than fine sand).
Listed as a beautiful place where it is possible to "swim and surf", it also has several food stalls where the sale of cold beer and snacks stands out, suitable for after crossing the waves.
It emphasizes that "experienced surfers can take advantage of the constant, strong swell, which offers long rides to shore," while also warning to be careful of rocks and rip currents in fast waves, as these can trap even experts.
Ideal for natural bathing
The publication also describes the surroundings of the beach environment, where there is an ideal place for natural bathing in the “Los Patos River”, which has a “large natural pool that allows a refreshing dip, away from the rocky reefs”.
This river has been listed as "the shortest in the Dominican Republic", with a length of 500 meters.
It also notes that it is close to the town of Paraíso and the place has facilities such as parking, bathrooms, bars and food stalls that line the beach.
