The initiative opens up new possibilities for connectivity and services associated with corporate buildings and real estate developments in the city
SANTO DOMINGO. Santo Domingo is beginning to experience a new type of urban service with the operational expansion of CrecerLab's drone corridor, an infrastructure that will allow the transport of fast food orders in authorized areas and that, in the future, could be extended to other services and commercial activities.
The project has the corresponding approval of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) and, in this first phase, will allow deliveries from the Taco Bell branch located on Winston Churchill Avenue to the WC Tower and vice versa, using the corridor enabled on this important road in Santo Domingo.
Beyond the innovation in delivery service, the initiative represents a new element within the evolution of corporate buildings and urban spaces, by incorporating an aerial infrastructure capable of directly connecting commercial establishments with properties located within their area of operation.
Deliveries in less than two minutes
One of the project's main attractions is the significant reduction in delivery times. Drone delivery along the approved corridor will allow each trip to be completed in under two minutes.
For users of corporate buildings, this represents an alternative that can reduce dependence on vehicular traffic for certain services and improve the experience of those who work or carry out activities within these buildings.
The model also opens the possibility for other businesses located within the designated corridor to gradually join this urban aerial distribution network.
Technology arrives in corporate buildings
As part of the pilot phase, collaborators of CrecerLab, AFP Crecer and Seguros Crecer have been able to use the service and receive their orders directly at their corporate building headquarters, through controlled operations.
This type of integration presents new opportunities for the real estate sector, particularly for office buildings, mixed-use projects, and developments located in strategic areas of the city.
The incorporation of air mobility solutions for everyday services could, over time, become an additional differentiating factor for certain real estate projects, especially those seeking to position themselves as modern, technological, and connected spaces.
Safety and regulation for operations
The route's safety architecture is developed under the regulatory parameters established by the IDAC. Each flight operates with two certified pilots and backup systems, as part of the protocols established for this new phase.
The project is the result of four years of research and technological development in the country and two years of regular operational experience in the Dominican Republic's first authorized drone corridor, which has already accumulated hundreds of flights in the Santo Domingo metropolitan area, according to the entities involved, in a press document.
The existence of regulated corridors and supervised operations is a fundamental component for this technology to be progressively integrated into the urban environment and, eventually, into new commercial and real estate spaces.
A new variable for urban development
Carlos Barranco, CEO of CrecerLab, highlighted that the scope of this infrastructure goes beyond order delivery and aims to build a sustainable model for cities.
According to the company's vision, the use of drones can help reduce vehicular traffic, decrease carbon emissions, and promote the creation of specialized technical jobs.
From a real estate perspective, these advances also raise a relevant question: how can new mobility and logistics technologies begin to influence the planning, operation, and competitiveness of the buildings of the future?
The integration of drone services could gradually become part of the complementary infrastructure of certain developments, especially in business and commercial areas with high activity density.
Towards more connected buildings
The implementation of this phase has the operational support of AFP Crecer and Seguros Crecer at their corporate facilities, the participation of Taco Bell as the network's first commercial partner, and the supervision of IDAC in matters of aeronautical safety.
The project thus marks a new chapter in the evolution of urban services in Santo Domingo and opens the door to a scenario in which buildings will not only be connected by streets, vehicles and digital networks, but also through air corridors intended for logistics services.
For the real estate market, the expansion of these solutions could represent a new opportunity to develop more efficient, technological urban spaces adapted to the needs of a city in transformation.
