The financial institution supports hotel clients in promoting sustainable investments to strengthen the efficiency and resilience of the sector

SANTO DOMINGO. – Banco Popular Dominicano, as part of its participation in the ASONAHORES 2026 Trade Show, highlighted sustainability as a key factor in strengthening the competitiveness, efficiency, and resilience of the national tourism industry.

During the conference entitled “Sustainable Tourism: Banco Popular’s comprehensive support to move from vision to implementation”, given by Nathaly Uribe, Responsible Banking Manager of Banco Popular, the discussion focused on how to convert the sustainability goals of the tourism sector into concrete actions and verifiable results.

In that context, the entity highlighted the role of banking as a strategic ally to facilitate investments that allow hotels, developers and supplier companies to move towards more efficient operations, through financial solutions, technical knowledge and specialized support.

Support for business clients

The company said it conducts sustainability training workshops for its business clients, including those in the tourism sector, focusing on reducing their carbon footprint and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria, supporting them in the transition to a low-emission economy that helps them adapt to the effects of climate change.

In this regard, he explained that he offers his business clients the Certification in Corporate Emissions Measurement according to the GHG Protocol and the ISO 14064-1 Standard, which allows participating companies to develop skills to measure their organizational carbon footprint, identify opportunities for emissions reduction and align themselves with these international standards.

Strategic sustainable finance

Furthermore, during the conference, it was added that measures for energy efficiency, water and waste management, circular economy and infrastructure resilience can contribute to reducing costs, managing risks, protecting natural resources and sustaining long-term financial performance.

By supporting business clients in matters of sustainability, Popular places importance on learning spaces that provide practical tools, up-to-date knowledge and a strategic vision on sustainable finance, especially applied to sectors with a high environmental impact such as tourism.
