Banco Popular climbs 17 positions in the world's top 1,000 banks

It strengthens its international position with a track record of sustained growth

SANTO DOMINGO.- Banco Popular Dominicano reported that it climbed 17 positions in the Top 1,000 World Banks 2026 ranking, compiled by The Banker magazine, part of the Financial Times group, to occupy position 688 among the world's top one thousand banking entities.

According to a statement from the bank, the advance was driven by the growth of its primary capital (Tier 1), the main indicator used by The Banker to assess the financial strength of banking institutions.

It is noteworthy that among the Dominican private capital banking entities included in the ranking, Banco Popular obtained the highest position, with an advantage of 247 places over the next private capital institution in the country present in the list.

The rise of Popular in the ranking was also based, the Bank explains, on the growth of its assets, greater generation of results and robust levels of profitability and solvency, factors that support its position among the most relevant private financial entities in the region.

In this regard, the CEO of Banco Popular, Christopher Paniagua, valued the progress made in the ranking and highlighted that this recognition reflects the trust of the customers and the commitment of the employees.

“This achievement demonstrates how we continue to innovate and build a bank that is closer, more agile, and more efficient every day. We will continue to promote this innovative and responsible banking model, focused on contributing to the economic, social, and environmental development of the Dominican Republic,” the executive stated.

A trajectory of sustained growth

The Top 1,000 World Banks list, published annually since 1970, is one of the main international benchmarks for assessing the strength of the banking industry, the institution maintains.

It points out that Banco Popular's evolution in the Top 1,000 World Banks demonstrates a trajectory of sustained growth in one of the most recognized rankings of the international financial system.

In 2014, the organization ranked 906th in the world. Twelve years later, it ranks 688th, having climbed 218 places in that period.

This progress has been accompanied by a strategy focused on innovation, digital transformation, financial discipline, and the adoption of international best practices. As a result, Banco Popular has strengthened its competitiveness and its position among the most robust private financial institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean, the press release concludes.
