Why is the holiday being moved to November 9th?
Although Dominican Constitution Day is officially commemorated every November 6, in 2026 the holiday was moved to Monday, November 9, in accordance with the provisions established for the movement of holidays in the country.
The date commemorates the promulgation of the first Dominican Magna Carta, an event that took place on November 6, 1844 in San Cristóbal, months after the proclamation of National Independence.
This document established the legal, political, and institutional foundations of the Dominican Republic as an independent nation and marked a fundamental moment in the construction of the Dominican State.
Therefore, although the historical celebration corresponds to November 6, Monday the 9th was established as a holiday for the commemoration of this event.
