Housing Construction Start: MIVHED Promotes Program to Protect Dominican Real Estate Investments in Europe

MIVHED promotes program to protect real estate investments of Dominicans in Europe

The “My Secure Home” initiative, presented in Madrid together with the EOI of Spain, will offer financial education and guidance to prevent risks when buying properties in the Dominican Republic

MADRID, SPAIN– With the aim of preventing risks and protecting the assets of Dominicans residing in Europe interested in acquiring property in the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), in collaboration with the School of Industrial Organization (EOI) of Spain, presented the program “My Secure Home: Learn to invest in your home in the DR”.

The initiative was announced during Dominican Week in Madrid and seeks to provide practical tools so that Dominicans can assess their economic possibilities, learn about financing options, and verify the documentation of real estate projects before committing their savings.

During the launch, the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Jean Luis Rodríguez, pointed out that buying a home in the country represents much more than a financial transaction for those who live abroad, as it also constitutes a way to maintain their ties with their homeland.

“For our Dominicans abroad, owning a home in the Dominican Republic is not just an investment. It’s a way to continue building a future in their country,” the official stated.

Financial education to avoid real estate risks

One of the main purposes of "My Secure Home" is to guide participants on fundamental aspects before purchasing a property. The training covers topics such as savings planning, payment capacity, financing options, and reviewing documents related to real estate transactions.

Likewise, the project aims to help those interested to learn to recognize possible warning signs, check the conditions of housing developments, and seek specialized advice when they deem it necessary.

In that regard, the minister clarified that the proposal does not intend to recommend projects or tell citizens what property they should buy, but rather to offer them knowledge to make more informed decisions.

“This program wasn’t created to tell you what home to buy. It was created to give you better tools to decide how, when, and under what conditions to do so,” Rodríguez stated.

The official also stressed that having reliable information can help reduce the uncertainty faced by those who carry out these types of transactions from abroad, where distance can make direct supervision of the processes difficult.

A commitment to protecting the heritage of the diaspora

Furthermore, Rodríguez explained that the initiative responds to an institutional vision that incorporates financial education and citizen guidance as necessary elements to promote responsible access to housing.

Likewise, he valued the efforts of Dominicans who, despite residing outside the national territory, continue working to improve the conditions of their families and build a legacy in the Dominican Republic.

“Today we are not handing over the keys to a house. Today we are handing over something that should come before any keys: the knowledge to make a good decision,” he said.

With this proposal, MIVHED and the School of Industrial Organization seek to provide Dominicans residing in Europe with greater resources to evaluate their options before investing in a home in their country of origin.

In this way, “My Safe Home” places preparation and prevention as essential steps so that the acquisition of a property is supported by informed decisions and an adequate legal and financial evaluation.
