SANTO DOMINGO.-The Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), through the Specialized Corps for the Control of Fuels and Trade of Goods (CECCOM), led an operation in which a clandestine cardboard factory, operated by foreigners in the municipality of San Antonio de Guerra, was shut down.

The operation was supported by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), which verified the status in the country of these foreigners of Asian origin, and the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), the entity that stopped the work for violations of Law 687-82 on Technical Regulations for the Preparation and Execution of Projects.

In announcing the information, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Yayo Sanz Lovatón, explained that the Dominican Republic is an open country for foreign investment and trade, as long as they are established in the country within the framework of the Law.

In the operation, a fuel tank with a capacity of 5,000 liters was seized and 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel were confiscated, with a total estimated value of RD$2,250,000.

The establishment called “Fábrica Cartesa” completely lacked the Land Use Certificate, authorizations for its commercial activities, and hired foreign personnel irregularly.

During a technical inspection carried out at the complex, which consists of three large industrial buildings and a four-story building intended for offices and residences, the members of CECCOM dismantled a fuel warehouse that was operating clandestinely and without the regulations required by Law No. 112-00 on Hydrocarbons.
