The heads of both entities reaffirmed, through a statement, their role in protecting legitimate trade from those who want to disregard the law to the detriment of the Dominican State.
SANTO DOMINGO.- The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) and the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) announced this Thursday that they continue to carry out joint operations in order to detect possible tax and customs crimes by companies operating in the country.
Suspecting possible practices that threaten legitimate trade, both institutions initiated an audit process of the companies: Plaza Hope by ZZBQ SRL, Comercial WERAYO SRL and Plaza Hope by BZHE SRL.
These audits are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the current Tax Code and the laws that modify and complement it, as well as Customs Law 168-21, and its implementing regulations.
These visits are part of the joint strategy undertaken by both departments, aimed at combating tax evasion and unfair competition, the entities said in a statement.
Both the Director General of the DGII, Luis Valdez Veras, and the Director General of the DGA, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, reaffirmed through a statement their role of protecting legitimate trade from those who want to disregard the law to the detriment of the Dominican State.
The visits and audits to these companies are carried out based on the results of the cross-referencing of information between both institutions.
Companies that are not found to be in violation of current regulations may continue their operations, while those found to have anti-commercial and tax practices will receive the sanctions provided for in national laws.
Closing deals
In April of this year, the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) and the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) launched several operations, through which they closed 11 Chinese commercial establishments, for alleged tax non-compliance, in Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.
Hardware store owners' complaint
The Dominican Association of Hardware Importers (ADOIMFE) has issued several complaints and denunciations on various occasions regarding unfair competition from Chinese businesses in the country, arguing that sales in that sector have decreased by up to 35% monthly due to the growth of Chinese-owned businesses in the Dominican Republic.
"We want to make it clear that we are not against their (the Chinese) participation in the Dominican market, but we do want them to comply with the payment of their taxes and established rules that established companies comply with," the entity that groups the hardware stores said repeatedly.
