SANTO DOMINGO– President Luis Abinader stated this Saturday that the delivery of 1,000 property title certificates in the Los Frailes represents a transcendental step towards social justice and dignity for the beneficiary families, providing them with legal security over their homes, strengthening their assets, and opening doors to new development opportunities.
During the ceremony, held at the Fe y Alegría Educational Center, the president emphasized that this action directly impacts more than 4,000 people who now have the peace of mind of possessing the document that legally certifiestheirproperty ownership. He affirmed that property regularization is one of the initiatives that brings him the greatest satisfaction due to its direct impact on the lives of Dominican families. “This is one of the events I enjoy most, because it truly brings peace of mind to families.”
President Abinader emphasized that the distribution of these land titles ends years of uncertainty regarding land ownership and allows families to have the assurance that their homes legally belong to them. “The land belongs to those who have occupied it for years… That is the act of justice we have today,” he stated.
The head of state explained that having a property title allows families to access the formal financial system, start businesses, expand their homes, or make investments that contribute to improving their living conditions, in addition to guaranteeing a secure asset for future generations.
“With that property title, you can now go to a formal bank, start a business, or expand your home. You also know that you will leave a peaceful and trouble-free property as an inheritance for your family. This is peace and tranquility,” he said.
He also emphasized that formalization increases property values, noting that a titled property acquires greater value and legal security. “When they first came through that door, the property was worth one amount; now it’s worth two or even three times more,” he stated, urging the beneficiaries to protect their assets.
More than 170,000 degrees delivered
President Abinader reported that, as part of the national land titling policy, the Government has delivered around 170,000 property titles throughout the national territory and reiterated that the goal is to continue expanding this number to bring legal security and social justice to more Dominican families.
“We want to deliver even double that amount so that people can have justice,” he said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to continue developing land titling projects in Los Frailes and other communities across the country.
Duarte Méndez, the executive director of the State Land Titling Technical Unit (UTECT), highlighted that the delivery of the 1,000 title certificates represents a savings of RD$80 million for the beneficiary families, because they receive a document free of charge that, through private channels, would have a high cost.
