The French hotel group is returning to the Dominican market with projects such as the Swissôtel Santo Domingo and the Novotel Punta Cana Airport, the latter with an investment of US$22 million and an opening planned for 2027
SANTO DOMINGO.- The French hotel group Accor is boosting its return to the Dominican Republic with new projects in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, as a result of the promotional and support efforts carried out by the Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center (ProDominicana) since January 2023.
Among the announced initiatives are the Swissôtel Santo Domingo, which will combine hotel rooms and residences, and the Novotel Punta Cana Airport, a 105-room establishment scheduled to open in 2027. The group's return represents a commitment to expanding the accommodation options in urban and tourist destinations across the country.
The company, which has more than 5,800 hotels worldwide, seeks to strengthen its presence in the Caribbean through projects aimed at different market segments, from vacation tourism to corporate travel.
Swissôtel Santo Domingo will combine hotel and residences
One of the announced projects is the Swissôtel Santo Domingo, developed in partnership with Noval Properties under a mixed-use concept that will integrate approximately 75 hotel rooms and about 180 residences.
This combination will allow the hotel accommodation offer and residential units to be brought together in the same development, a format that incorporates different usage modalities within the same real estate project.
The initiative is part of Accor's expansion strategy in the Dominican market and will contribute to diversifying the accommodation options in the capital.
Novotel Punta Cana Airport would open in 2027
Another of the highlighted projects is the Novotel Punta Cana Airport, a 105-room hotel located about five minutes from Punta Cana International Airport.
The initiative involves an investment of US$22 million and is scheduled to open in 2027. Its location near the airport terminal places it in a strategic position to serve travelers who need accommodation related to their trips.
In addition, the establishment will expand Punta Cana's hotel offerings with a proposal from the Novotel brand, belonging to Accor's international portfolio.
ProDominicana attributes the return to investment efforts
ProDominicana's Investment Director, Zanony Severino, explained that the approaches with Accor began in January 2023, during the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS), held in Los Angeles, United States.
At that meeting, representatives from both sides explored the possibilities of the hotel group's return to the country. Subsequently, a presidential invitation was extended to its CEO.
In January 2024, Accor formalized its interest through a communication addressed to the Presidency, in which it identified the Dominican Republic as a priority market and raised opportunities for hotel development in Pedernales and Punta Bergantín.
Subsequently, in July 2026, company representatives participated in the Americas Investment Forum 2026, organized by ProDominicana and the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) in Santo Domingo. The event brought together delegations and representatives from the public and private sectors of more than 52 countries to promote investment, trade, and innovation opportunities.
Accor has more than 5,800 hotels worldwide
Accor is one of the leading international hospitality groups, with a presence in more than 110 countries and a portfolio that exceeds 45 hotel brands.
Its brands include Raffles, Fairmont, Sofitel, Pullman, Swissôtel, Novotel, Mercure, ibis Styles and Tribe, covering different segments, from budget accommodation to luxury hotels, residences and concepts geared towards business and holiday travelers.
The diversity of its brands allows for the development of projects adapted to the characteristics of each destination and the needs of different guest profiles.
Hotel investment and tourism diversification
For ProDominicana, Accor's return represents an opportunity to attract foreign capital, expand the accommodation offering, and strengthen the Dominican Republic's tourism competitiveness.
Likewise, the development of new establishments can generate opportunities for local companies linked to construction, the supply of goods and services, and hotel operations.
With the projects announced in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, Accor is renewing its commitment to the Dominican market, while the opportunities identified in other destinations, such as Pedernales and Punta Bergantín, are part of the approaches made during the investment promotion process.
