Hector Valdez Albizu receives international award for the fourth time

The governor of the Dominican Central Bank received recognition from Global Finance, with an A- rating in 2026, for his monetary management focused on price stability and his response to international economic challenges.

SANTO DOMINGO.– The governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, Héctor Valdez Albizu, once again appeared among internationally recognized monetary officials by receiving, for the fourth time, an A- rating from Global Finance, in its Central Banker Report Cards 2026.

The publication praised his leadership of Dominican monetary policy, particularly the measures aimed at maintaining price stability and addressing international economic challenges. The award also highlights the role of monetary policy decisions in a context marked by financial uncertainty, inflationary pressures, and geopolitical tensions.

In its assessment, Global Finance highlighted the monetary strategy applied in the Dominican Republic, noting that it has contributed to generating confidence in the economic environment and favorable conditions for foreign direct investment (FDI), growth in productive activity and job stability.

The magazine also considered the challenges central banks face in light of international events that impact markets and the cost of living. These include the war between Russia and Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East, whose effects on hydrocarbons and other products can be passed on to prices and make it more difficult to control inflation.

In this context, monetary authorities must adjust their strategies to respond to external economic variations without losing sight of the objectives of internal stability.

The Dominican economy stands out in the region

In its analysis, the magazine also referred to the performance of the Dominican economy within Latin America and the Caribbean, attributing part of its performance to macroeconomic policies, political stability, and favorable business conditions.

The combination of these factors has helped position the country as an attractive destination for international investors. In turn, keeping inflation under control is important to protect citizens' purchasing power, facilitate business planning, and offer greater predictability to those who decide to invest.

However, the evolution of these indicators continues to depend on both internal decisions and external factors, including international energy prices, financial conditions and the behavior of major trading partners.

Governors from Latin America and other economies were also recognized

The 2026 edition included several representatives from the Latin American region. Among them were Julio Velarde from Peru; Rossanna Costa from Chile; Roger Madrigal from Costa Rica; Álvaro González from Guatemala; Carlos Carvallo from Paraguay; and Santiago Bausili from Argentina.

They also received awards from central banks in Switzerland, Singapore, and Poland, as part of an evaluation that considers inflation control, financial stability, and the political independence of monetary authorities.

Christopher Giarraputo, director of the editorial board of Global Finance, explained that these ratings seek to recognize governors whose strategies are distinguished by their creativity, originality and ability to deal with complex economic scenarios.

The awards were announced during the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, at a ceremony held on October 17 in Bangkok, Thailand. Joel González, Deputy Manager of Monetary Programming at the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, accepted the statuette on behalf of Valdez Albizu.

Four awards in nine years

With the rating obtained in 2026, Valdez Albizu now has four Global Finance. The first came in 2017, followed by those for 2024, 2025, and 2026.

The reiteration of these distinctions reflects their presence in different editions of the report, through which the magazine examines the performance of those responsible for monetary policy in numerous countries.

Founded in 1987 and headquartered in New York, Global Finance publishes analyses on international markets, economics and finance, primarily aimed at executives, investors and professionals in the financial sector.

The new recognition once again places Valdez Albizu among the outstanding governors in the 2026 evaluation, at a time when central banks continue to face the challenge of preserving price stability and responding to fluctuations in the global economy.
