SANTO DOMINGO. This Monday marked the start of the Back-to-School Mobility Plan 2026, an initiative aimed at ensuring more orderly and safe traffic flow as thousands of students return to school. The strategy is coordinated by the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett), along with other institutions, with the goal of facilitating vehicular traffic during peak hours in school zones.
The Digesett reported on the identification of 62 educational centers categorized as "critical" in the National District, due to the impact they generate on vehicular mobility during the early morning hours, coinciding with the entry of students to schools and colleges.
The objective of implementing these strategies is to expedite the flow of vehicles, both those intended for the transport of students and those of people traveling to their respective workdays.

Regarding its implementation, the plan includes the participation of the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett), the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) and the Mayor's Office of the National District, among other institutions linked to traffic management.
What does the Back to School Mobility Plan 2026 include?
The plan includes actions in 23 prioritized educational centers in the National District, including signage, lane channeling, establishment of circulation patterns and organization of areas designated for student pick-up and drop-off.
Additionally, Digesett agents will be strategically deployed at these points to facilitate traffic, guide and assist drivers, parents, students and other road users.
The planned actions include channeling lanes with cones to organize the arrival and collection of students, recommended circulation routes for parents and guardians, as well as staggered departure times by levels.
It also includes monitoring the changes in direction established at certain times, as well as promoting the use of shared vehicles and private public transport, with the aim of contributing to greater traffic flow.
These measures will be accompanied by orientation sessions to promote respect for signage in school zones and to remind everyone that the maximum speed limit is 20 kilometers per hour in these areas, in order to reduce risks and promote safer journeys for students, parents and other road users.
Intrant called on parents, guardians, drivers, and educational communities to respect the regulations and cooperate with the authorities during the return to classes, to contribute to more orderly traffic and better road coexistence
