Public investment reaches RD$60,644.1 million during the first half of 2026

The amount represents the highest level recorded for a first half of the year in the last seven years

SANTO DOMINGO.– The Ministry of Finance and Economy (MHE) reported that public investment projects (PIP) reached RD$60,644.1 million during the first half of 2026, representing the highest level recorded for that period in the last seven years.

The amount, as explained by the entity, is the result of the sum of RD 51,358.2 million executed through traditional financing mechanisms with RD 9,285.9 million channeled through public trusts.

In that sense, the institution said that the dynamism constitutes a clear example of a public policy aimed at responding to the needs of the population while impacting economic growth.

According to the report Execution of Public Investment Projects January – June 2026, the result exceeds by 47% the historical average execution corresponding to the first semesters from 2019 to date.

Implementation details

According to the report, during the first quarter of this year RD19,711.4 million was disbursed, while in the second quarter RD31,646.9 million was executed, accumulating RD51,358.2 million in the aforementioned period invested through traditional financing mechanisms, which represented an increase of 36% compared to the same period in 2025.

Furthermore, as of the end of June, the Public Investment Projects (PIPs) had reached an execution rate equivalent to 43.8% of their initial annual budget, above the historical average of 38.8%. As a proportion of the gross domestic product (GDP), the execution represented 1.3%, which is equivalent to 0.3 percentage points above the level recorded in the same period of 2025.

The projects carried out were mainly concentrated in areas such as: roads, transport, drinking water supply, air, water and soil protection and education, which are among the approaches prioritized by the Government to boost development and improve the quality of life.

The transportation sector saw the largest expenditure, with RD$23,420.8 million, representing 46% of the total. Nearly 90% of these funds were allocated to road transport projects. Housing and community services accounted for RD$5,735.6 million. Similarly, projects related to air, water, and soil protection totaled RD$4,095.8 million.

Public investment projects constitute the main component of capital expenditure. In the first half of this year, the central government allocated RD$82,119.6 million to this item.

In addition, the report also records public investment executed through fiduciary mechanisms, mainly those executed through the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transit System of the Dominican Republic (Fitram) and the one for the management, maintenance and expansion of the main road network (RD Vial).
