Welcome Center Punta Bergantín opens: a new mixed-use real estate development to boost the northern area

The construction of the Amber Highway, the expansion of the Duarte Highway, and other road projects that will strengthen Puerto Plata's connectivity with Santiago and the entire Cibao region were cited as added value for boosting the new destination

In Montallano, Puerto Plata, the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, led the inauguration last Saturday of the Welcome Center of Punta Bergantín, a tourist and real estate development that in the first stage of the new destination includes four hotels and a projected investment of more than USD 400 million.

The complex, located in the municipality of Villa Montellano, covers approximately 10 million square meters and includes high-class hotels, residential and mixed-use units, a golf course, beach clubs, recreation and entertainment spaces, and an Innovation Center.

The CEO of Banreservas, Leonardo Aguilera, and the project's executive director, Andrés Marranzini, completed the executive delegation that inaugurated the new project, which, according to the statement from the Ministry of the Presidency, seeks to attract new investments, generate jobs and boost the economy of Puerto Plata and the northern region.

It also seeks to expand the tourism offering and strengthen the projection of the northern coast as a destination for investment and development.

During the ceremony, Paliza noted that Punta Bergantín is part of a comprehensive vision of the Government to boost tourism, attract investment and strengthen the economic integration of the northern region through infrastructure and connectivity projects.

“We are talking about connecting fragmented economies to generate agglomeration economies, enabling these markets, which are complementary in themselves, to unite and create dynamics that will clearly make us more competitive and stronger. Bergantín becomes a new guiding light; Puerto Plata today is undoubtedly experiencing its best moment,” he stated.

Paliza also praised the construction of the Amber Highway, the expansion of the Duarte Highway, and other road works that will strengthen the connectivity of Puerto Plata with Santiago and the entire Cibao region.

The first entrance

Andrés Marranzini, executive director of the macro-project, highlighted that the Welcome Center constitutes the first gateway to the project and demonstrates the transition from plans to concrete results.

“There comes a time when projects stop being explained and start being taught, and that time has come for Punta Bergantín. This Welcome Center is the first gateway to Punta Bergantín, our meeting point for information and welcome,” said Marranzini.

A development with a regional focus

For his part, Leonardo Aguilera, CEO of Banreservas, highlighted the regional scope of the initiative and Banreservas' support for its development, noting that Punta Bergantín represents opportunities for Puerto Plata, Santiago and the entire Cibao region.

The event was attended by the Director General of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Igor Rodríguez; the Executive Director of the RD Vial Trust, Hostos Rizik; the Director of Indrhi, Olmedo Caba; the Governor of Puerto Plata, Claritza Rochtte; Senator Ginette Bournigal; as well as authorities, representatives of the tourism and business sector, project purchasers and investors.
