Why will Public Works close the floating bridge this Saturday the 16th?

The measure will allow three boats to pass through the Ozama River

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported that this Saturday, May 16, the floating bridge over the Ozama River will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

According to the institution, the temporary suspension of traffic is due to the passage of the Green Nicoya tugboat and the Kinnick 3200 and Winbuild 1810 barges, vessels that will head to the Joseph Industrial Development Corp. Shipyard.

The floating bridge, which connects the National District with the Villa Duarte sector in Santo Domingo East, will remain out of service during that time, so authorities urged drivers to take precautions and plan their journeys in advance.

As alternative routes, the MOPC recommended using the Matías Ramón Mella, Juan Pablo Duarte and Juan Bosch bridges for travel between Santo Domingo and Villa Duarte in both directions.

The agency noted that these types of temporary closures are carried out periodically to facilitate maritime traffic on the Ozama River and allow the safe passage of large vessels.
