Road Construction Begins Today saw the launch of the OMSA integrated fare, the Metro...

Today marked the launch of the integrated fare system for OMSA, the Santo Domingo Metro, and the Cable Car

SANTO DOMINGO.– Starting this Monday, August 10, after more than three and a half months, the Metropolitan Bus Services Operator (OMSA) will begin charging RD$35 for the integrated service that will allow passengers to use, for a period of 90 minutes, the Santo Domingo Metro, the Cable Car and the institution's buses.

With this new mobility model, the Integrated Transport System (SIT) will implement an integration mechanism using rechargeable cards, allowing users to travel between different means of transport with a single payment.

Although previously the cost of each service was paid individually, now passengers will be able to access these means of transport under an integrated fare, a measure that seeks to facilitate mobility and contribute to the economy of citizens.

The integrated trip will be valid for one and a half hours. After validating the access card on the first service used, passengers can make the remaining transfers within the system without the total cost of the trip exceeding the established RD$35.

In addition to the cards used to access the Metro, users will also be able to pay with bank cards, which will expand the available options and facilitate boarding the different means of transport, even when they do not have a card from the system.

Previous prices

The cost per trip on the Santo Domingo Metro and the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car was RD$20, while the OMSA fare remained at RD$15. For some users, these prices were favorable individually; however, those who needed to use several of these services had to assume the corresponding cost for each one.

There is no increase in the price of the Metro

One of the main concerns among citizens regarding the implementation of this new fare scheme is whether the measure would imply an increase in the price of a trip on the Metro.

According to the Integrated Transportation System (SIT), the individual fare for the Santo Domingo Metro will continue to be RD$20 for those who do not need to use other transportation services.

This fare will remain in place for users who travel exclusively through the Metro system, which connects different points in Santo Domingo, including the National District and Santo Domingo North.
