The new scheme will function as an optional product aimed at facilitating the connection between the different public transport systems operating in Greater Santo Domingo
SANTO DOMINGO.– Users of the Integrated Transportation System (SIT) will be able to travel using the Santo Domingo Metro, the Cable Car, and bus corridors with a unified fare starting July 10, according to Jhael Isa Taveras, Executive Vice President of the Metropolitan Transportation Company (EMT).
According to statements shared by the official during the opening of the 31st Meeting of the Technical Committees of the Latin American Association of Metros and Subways (Alamys), the new system will allow these journeys to be made with a single payment of RD$35, while those who only use the Metro will continue to pay the usual fare of RD$20.
Isa Taveras explained that this alternative will not replace the current system, but will offer passengers a more practical option to combine different means of transport without having to make separate payments at each stage of the journey.
Integration to streamline travel
The executive noted that the cards that will make this new mobility model possible are in the final phase of technological integration, so the service is expected to be operational next month.
The implementation of the integrated fare is part of the public transport interconnection strategy promoted by the authorities, with the aim of reducing travel times and facilitating the mobility of thousands of users who travel daily between different points in Greater Santo Domingo.
Progress is being made on the normalization of Line 2C
During her participation, Isa Taveras also reported that the certification process for Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro would conclude on August 10, allowing the full operation of this extension and the total incorporation of the fleet destined for the corridor towards Los Alcarrizos.
The announcement comes just days after the mandatory transfer at Franklin Mieses station was eliminated, a measure that allows passengers to remain on board until Maria Montez station and continue their journey without changing trains.
The information was provided within the framework of the Alamys international meeting, which brings together in Santo Domingo representatives of the main railway and mass transport systems of Latin America, Spain and Portugal to exchange experiences on urban mobility and innovation in the sector.
