The integrated fare of RD$35 will allow the use of the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car and the OMSA feeder routes within the Integrated Transportation System
SANTO DOMINGO– For thousands of people, getting to work or university means using more than one vehicle and paying several fares before completing a single trip. This is the reality that the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transit System of the Dominican Republic (FITRAM) seeks to transform with the implementation of an integrated fare for the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car.
According to the institution, starting August 17, users will be able to travel through the system using a single payment of RD$35, a fare that will include both the complete cable car route and the feeder routes of the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (OMSA) that are part of the Integrated Transportation System (SIT).
According to FITRAM, the measure will allow passengers to save up to 35% of the resources they currently allocate to daily transport, a reduction that, according to their estimates, represents approximately 20% of the family basket expenditure.
One trip, one payment
Fare integration eliminates the need to pay a separate fare each time the user changes means of transport within the system.
The scheme includes feeder routes that connect the Los Alcarrizos station with kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway and the February 27 Express service to the area known as Huacalito.
For FITRAM, this model seeks to facilitate passenger mobility and consolidate a system where buses and cable cars function as a single transport network.
Less cash, more digital options
Another change that accompanies the integration is the diversification of payment methods.
The institution explained that users will be able to access the system by paying in cash at the ticket offices, using the Santo Domingo Metro card or the SDGo card of the Integrated Transportation System.
Payments will also be accepted via Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards with EMV technology, allowing direct access to the system without the need to purchase an additional ticket.
FITRAM indicated that these alternatives aim to reduce the use of cash, expedite access to stations, and decrease waiting times during peak hours.
A system that is already part of the routine
The institution reported that since the start of operations of the Los Alcarrizos Cable Car, more than 750,000 passengers had used the system, incorporating it as part of their daily commutes.
For FITRAM, this figure reflects the rapid adoption of a means of transport designed to reduce travel times in one of the municipalities with the highest traffic congestion in Greater Santo Domingo.
Currently, the system directly impacts some 400,000 people, according to the entity.
