SANTO DOMINGO.- A total of 5,900 native trees were planted during a reforestation effort in the border area, an initiative developed by Industrias San Miguel (ISM) together with government institutions, academic organizations and service agencies.
According to information provided by the company, the intervention was carried out in areas linked to the Cana River micro-basin and involved the participation of the Ministry of Environment, Plan Sierra, the Provincial Government of Santiago Rodríguez and the Municipal Government of Sabaneta.
Members of Civil Defense, the Fire Department, Border Development, and the Dominican Red Cross also participated in the event.
According to ISM, since 2018 the company has participated in the planting of more than 35,000 trees of different species as part of its environmental programs.
The activity mobilized more than 200 volunteers, including company employees and students from educational centers in the area, including the El Caimito Basic School, a local high school and the Loyola Polytechnic Institute.
Among the species planted are mahogany, pine, mara and Juan Primero, native varieties selected for their adaptability and their importance for biodiversity and forest recovery in the area, as explained by the organizers.
“This action is not an isolated event, but rather a reflection of our unwavering commitment to the country’s sustainable development. By planting these 5,900 trees, we are not only restoring an ecosystem, but also improving the water and air quality for future generations,” said Luis Negrón, Operations Manager at ISM.
The company indicated that the event is part of its sustainability and environmental restoration initiatives in communities where it operates.
