Award will boost journalistic coverage of sustainability and well-being

The call for entries will be open until July 30th, and participants will be able to submit works published in various media

SANTO DOMINGO.– Coverage of topics such as sustainability is advancing in the country, driven by initiatives that seek to orient content production towards issues of social and economic impact within journalism.

In that context, Industrias San Miguel (ISM), the Center for Analysis and Study of Communication (CAESCO) and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) announced the opening of the second edition of the “Sustainable Pen” award, a call that focuses on this type of issue.

According to the organizations, the initiative is aimed at recognizing journalistic work that deals with issues related to the environment, economic development and well-being, at a time when these areas are beginning to be more strongly integrated into the media agenda.

According to what was explained, the program seeks to encourage a type of journalism that not only informs, but also presents solutions to current challenges, including climate change, entrepreneurship, and public health.

The entities indicated that works in printed, digital and audiovisual formats can participate to reflect the adaptation of journalistic practice to multiple platforms.

Training and succession in the classroom

This edition includes a category aimed at university students, with the goal of linking academic training with the production of content on topics of public interest.

According to them, this inclusion responds to the need to integrate new profiles into the coverage of areas that require greater depth and specialization.

According to the information provided, the awards include cash prizes of RD$100,000 in the professional categories, as well as technological equipment and special mentions.
