SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications reported yesterday, Tuesday, that due to a mechanical failure detected in the floating bridge that connects the National District with the municipality of Santo Domingo East, vehicular and pedestrian traffic will remain closed until it is repaired.
According to the director of Bridge Maintenance at the MOPC, engineer Romer Francisco Pérez Vargas, the mechanical failure was located in the winch of the barge's main spur, which suffered a breakdown that prevents the spur from being lifted.
“We apologize to drivers and pedestrians who use this structure to travel from the National District to the municipality of Santo Domingo East and vice versa for any inconvenience its temporary closure may cause,” said Romer Francisco

He explained that the MOPC is working on cutting the cable to eliminate the tension and be able to disassemble the part in order to proceed with its repair.
According to the official, the cable was scheduled for inspection, so the opportunity will be taken to replace it with a new one.
“We will keep the public informed of the progress of the work until its completion,” said engineer Pérez.
