Section of a street collapses in southern Santiago

SANTIAGO.-A section of Franco Bidó Street in the Los Jazmines sector, in the southern part of this city, collapsed this Tuesday due to the explosion of a pipe that runs through that area.

The situation left several homes flooded, causing their owners great losses.

Aurora Idelfonso, one of those affected, recounted that the pipe damaged appliances and other household goods in her residence and in those of her neighbors.

While removing the water and mud left in her home by the break, the woman said she hoped the authorities would correct the situation as quickly as possible.

In addition to the property damage, the explosion left hundreds of families in the neighborhood without drinking water.

Similarly, the explosion has created chaos in traffic due to the temporary closure of the Franco Bidó road, because of the stream of water coming out of it.

Brigades from the Santiago Water and Sewerage Corporation (Coraasan) arrived at the scene and are assessing the situation.
