The Colonial City is betting on interactive experiences with the launch of "Colonial Challenge"

The new digital platform proposes exploring 18 emblematic spaces of the Colonial City through challenges, riddles and cultural experiences

SANTO DOMINGO – The Colonial City of Santo Domingo has incorporated a new tool to bring visitors and residents closer to its historical heritage. The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) and the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster presented “Colonial Challenge,” an interactive platform that transforms the traditional tour of the historic center into an experience based on challenges, exploration, and learning.

The initiative was launched within the framework of the TURIZONEANDO Summer 2026 program and seeks to integrate technological and educational elements into the capital's tourism offer, through a proposal that combines history, gamification and entertainment.

A historical journey transformed into an interactive experience

According to MITUR, the platform allows users to explore the Colonial City through a dynamic based on solving puzzles and discovering historical and cultural facts.

The experience is structured as a circuit of 18 challenges located at an equal number of emblematic points in the historic center. Participants must complete each stage sequentially, advancing progressively as they solve the challenges presented.

The proposal is designed to be used from mobile devices, allowing both tourists and residents to explore the Colonial City autonomously, interactively and adapted to the new trends of experiential tourism.

Technology at the service of heritage

The organization explained that the new tool is part of efforts aimed at modernizing tourism promotion and strengthening the link between historical heritage and new generations of visitors.

In addition to promoting knowledge about the history of Santo Domingo, the project seeks to boost the economic activity of the area, encouraging consumption in commercial establishments, cultural spaces and gastronomic proposals located in the Colonial City.

Users who complete the tour will have access to various surprises and benefits linked to the area's cultural and entertainment offerings.

Available until the end of August

"Colonial Challenge" will remain active until August 30, 2026. Those interested in participating can access the experience through the official portal www.desafiocolonial.mitur.gob.do and begin a journey that combines history, technology and tourism in the heart of the first city founded in America.
