Public Works will close 50 overpasses this week for maintenance work

SANTO DOMINGO.-A total of 50 overpasses located in Greater Santo Domingo, including tunnels, overpasses and bridges, will be closed from Monday night, December 11, 2023, until Saturday by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), to undergo maintenance work.

In all cases, the hours for closures will be from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day, and the work to be carried out includes solid waste collection, sweeping and aggregate collection, weed control, general cleaning of the surroundings, drainage cleaning, patching, maintenance painting, and electrical work.

On Monday night, a total of 11 structures will be closed in both directions, including the tunnels of Núñez de Cáceres Avenue and 27 de Febrero Avenue with Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill Avenues, the overpasses of Núñez de Cáceres Avenue with Cayetano Germosén Avenue, with Independencia Avenue, and with George Washington Avenue, and the Jacobo Majluta overpass with La Isabela Highway.

Also, the overpasses of the Duarte highway with Los Beisbolistas avenue (entrance to Manoguayabo), and with the intersection of Monumental avenue (entrance to Los Girasoles), of the Sánchez highway with Independencia, and the bridge of Jacobo Majluta avenue over the Isabela river.  

On Tuesday, seven structures will be closed: the overpasses on Luperón Avenue with the 30 de Mayo highway, on Winston Churchill Avenue with John F. Kennedy (South-West and East-South), on Kennedy Avenue with Lope de Vega and Tiradentes, on Abraham Lincoln Avenue (three consecutive nights due to electrical work), on Charles De Gaulle Avenue with the highway to San Isidro, and on Carretera Mella.

On Wednesday there will be nine closures, which will include the Ortega y Gasset-UASD tunnel, the Ortega y Gasset underpass and overpass with 27 de Febrero; the Máximo Gómez overpass with Nicolás de Ovando, and Kennedy with Doctor Defilló; the Gómez underpass with the access avenue to the Nuevo market, and the Ozama and Gregorio Luperón bridges (in Sabana Perdida).

On Thursday, eight structures will be closed: the Kennedy overpass with Núñez de Cáceres, the Sánchez highway with Independencia (Km 12), the Expreso Quinto Centenario with Duarte Avenue, with Hermanos Pinzón Street, and with San Martín Avenue; the Charles De Gaulle Avenue underpass with Hermanas Mirabal, and the Jacobo Majluta bridge near the entrance to Guaricano.

The closures on Friday correspond to a bridge on the 6 de Noviembre highway, overpasses at Prolongación 27 de Febrero with 6 de Noviembre, at Km 13 of the Duarte highway with Prolongación 27 Febrero and with Avenida Colombia; the one at Km 14 with Duarte highway, and the one at Avenida Padre Castellanos with Francisco del Rosario Sánchez.

Also, the Duarte highway overpass with entrance to Los Alcarrizos, the Mella and Sánchez bridges, and the control centers of the Ortega y Gasset and Las Américas tunnels.  

On Saturday, there will be closures at the overpasses of the Kennedy Expressway with Luperón Avenue, at Km 13 on the Duarte Highway with Colombia Avenue, at Km 14, and at the intersection of San Vicente de Paul Avenue with Venezuela Avenue.
