SANTO DOMINGO.-Within the framework of the actions carried out by the National Emergency Commission (CNE) through the Project for Strengthening Disaster Risk Management in the Dominican Republic (Progeri-RD), financed by the European Union, the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) received technological equipment and supplies to strengthen the work of the Dominican Network of Structural Evaluators (REED), which certified in the standardized methodology of building evaluation.
Leonardo Reyes Madera, Director General of Onesvie, thanked the National Emergency Commission (CNE) and the European Union for their trust in the institution and for recognizing its human capital as a representative of the country that seeks resilience through prevention. “Our commitment is to the preservation of life and our national heritage,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Juan Salas, president of the CNE and executive director of Civil Defense, stated that with the delivery of the equipment, the first phase of the project concludes, which seeks to strengthen Onesvie in the task of reducing seismic vulnerability and, in addition, improves the response capacity to the occurrence of a natural phenomenon.
“We have witnessed the effort of engineer Leonardo Reyes Madera to promote prevention and Onesvie has risen to the occasion, becoming a national brand to guarantee the resilience of our infrastructure,” he stated.
Likewise, Yanelba Abreu, coordinator of Progeri-RD, expressed satisfaction with the dedication shown by the Onesvie technical team and valued the European Union's willingness to strengthen preventive actions, so that the Dominican Republic can have a system prepared for disaster risk management.
“The project has had a technical-budgetary allocation to carry out the actions, Onesvie has been the only institution that has managed to complete all the actions requested in the allocation of resources,” Abreu stated.
The event took place in the Onesvie meeting room and was attended by representatives of the institutions involved.
