Public Works strengthens roadside assistance program for drivers; RD Vial activates fast passage

SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced yesterday that it will reinforce the "Roadside Assistance" program to guarantee safety on the country's highways and roads during this Holy Week.

The director of the Police and Military Commission (Comipol), General Rafael Vásquez, indicated that 2,582 men and women, distributed in two work groups, 311 patrol units and 44 ambulances with basic and advanced life support, mobile workshops, and five vehicle extrication teams will be placed in the most relevant places of traffic accidents and on main roads.

“We have joined the efforts of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), as we do every year,” Vásquez stated, while assuring that citizens who require assistance from security agencies will have it within “10 or 12 minutes,” and that they only need to call or text 829-688-1000.

Yesterday, the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascensión, led the distribution of instructions, fast passes, and emergency kits to drivers at the toll plaza at kilometer 25 of the Duarte highway, on the occasion of the start of the long holiday weekend.

Quick step

The RD Vial trust increased the activation and use of the Rapid Pass, which helps those traveling to the interior of the country to lose less time crossing toll booths, in anticipation of the Easter holiday.

The Rapid Pass is an electronic device that is placed on the front of your vehicle, so that when passing through toll booths you avoid the lines of a cash payment when crossing through the express lanes.

According to Sandra Hernández and Eddy Gabriel, from the marketing department of this program, the sticker can be used at 11 of the 15 toll plazas in the country, excluding those in the northeast. Additionally, the recently opened Azua bypass toll plaza is currently being digitized.

For this Holy Week, which is the time when the most movement of Dominicans, as well as foreigners, is recorded, having this seal represents one less worry at the time of travel.

Hernández said that this is obtained for an amount of 250 pesos, which includes 200 pesos of recharge and is available at the main office located in the National District, Torre La Cumbre and at the different toll stations distributed throughout the national territory.

There, a staff member will proceed with the activation, but they also have the option of doing it through the RD Vial website or via WhatsApp at the number 829-380-9965.
