PUERTO PLATA –The “Allure of the Seas,” belonging to The Royal Caribbean cruise line, is considered the largest ship to have docked in Dominican waters. It arrived last Monday at the Taíno Bay tourist port in the province, located in the north of the Dominican Republic.
More than 5,370 cruise passengers arrived in the Bride of the Atlantic and went out to discover and enjoy the charms of the tourist destination, where the history of Dominican vacation tourism began in 1980.
The director of Apordom, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted the economic impact that the arrival of this cruise ship will represent for the country and the confidence it generates in the cruise sector, so that the country becomes the Cruise Hub of the Caribbean.
“Based on the fact that each cruise passenger spends approximately $100 on land, we would be talking about an economic impact on Puerto Plata of more than half a million dollars. This fills us with pride to see Taino Bay as a dream come true, not only for those disembarking from the cruise ships, but also for the residents of Puerto Plata, whose quality of life has been impacted by the arrival of more and more cruise passengers,” emphasized Jean Luis Rodríguez.
Likewise, Harold Sanders, manager of Taíno Bay, stated that these cruise passengers represent the largest number they have received since the terminal opened and that with the arrival of the “Allure of the Seas” the port is now within the international threshold for receiving this type of vessel.
“Ninety-two percent of the ship's passengers went ashore to explore Puerto Plata, which is a significant achievement for Taino Bay and the province, providing a substantial economic boost. About the cruise
Allure of the Seas belongs to the "Oasis" class, which has a capacity of 9,000 passengers and 2,745 crew members staying in 2,700 cabins.
Furthermore, the vessel is 362 meters long by 61 meters wide and has 16 decks, making it one of the mega cruise ships that sail the seas.
Taino Bay is a tourist port managed by ITM Group and supervised by Apordom, which has three berths and a passenger center with a capacity to accommodate 14,000 cruise ships, and which creates more than 1,500 direct jobs and more than 3,000 indirect jobs for the entire northern area of the Caribbean country.
