Intrant prohibits the circulation of cargo vehicles during the Altagracia celebration

SANTO DOMINGO- The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) announced yesterday that it has prohibited the circulation of cargo vehicles during the celebration of Our Lady of Altagracia Day.

Resolution 001-2024, based on Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transport, Transit and Road Safety, establishes that, from tomorrow Saturday, January 20 at 2:00 in the afternoon until 12:00 at night on Sunday, January 21, the circulation of cargo vehicles is prohibited in the National District and the provinces of Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, La Altagracia and La Romana.

The measure seeks to prevent traffic congestion and improve the safety of the numerous pilgrims and visitors who travel, especially towards the Basilica of Higüey, according to a press release from the entity.

It adds that circulation permits on these dates will only be granted to vehicles transporting goods considered priority or perishable; the types of cargo that can request the permit are: fuel, bottled water, food supplies, medicines, medical equipment and hospital waste services, quicklime for electricity generation, disposable containers and papers, transport of valuables and organization of events.

In this regard, Intrant calls on those interested in obtaining circulation permits to submit their application starting from the publication of the resolution, through the Intrant website, www.intrant.gob.do where they can make the payment online and receive the permit with QR protection for its control.

The General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) and the Directorate of Supervision and Control of Road Sanctions of Intrant will supervise the execution and inspection of the provisions of this resolution, so that the necessary controls for its compliance are established, according to the press release.

Colonel Randolfo Rijo Gómez, ERD, interim executive director of Intrant, emphasized that these measures are fundamental to protecting the safety of citizens and ensuring an efficient flow of traffic during the celebration.

Likewise, Intrant urges citizens and transport companies to comply with these provisions and collaborate in creating a safe and orderly environment during the celebration of Our Lady of Altagracia Day.
