SANTO DOMINGO –The Dominican architectural community paid tribute to the master architect and urban planner Luis Eduardo (Pipí) Delgado, who passed away on Monday, September 2nd, leaving an indelible legacy in teaching and urban planning in the country. Family, colleagues, and generations of students gathered at the Blandino Lincoln Funeral Home to bid farewell to one of the profession's most beloved figures.
Delgado, part of the generation of architects awarded scholarships by Juan Bosch in 1963, studied Urban Planning in Paris and Planning in Brussels in 1965. Throughout his career he directed Urban Planning in various districts and held key positions at the School of Architecture of UNPHU, where he was director and dean, leaving a deep mark on the training of Dominican professionals.
Beyond his academic and professional work, Delgado will be remembered for his humanity and generosity. Former students agreed that his greatest achievement was his dedication to his students and the creation of lasting friendships. His life partner, Altagracia, was recognized as a confidante and pillar of the traditions she shared with several generations of architects, including the famous chickpea stew on the first Friday of every December, as journalist Ana Mitila Lora posted on Instagram.
Delgado not only built urban spaces and plans, but also solid human relationships, and highlights the love and respect he generated in students and colleagues who showed gratitude to a teacher who transformed Dominican architecture and left an example of dedication and affection that will endure in everyone's memory.
