SANTO DOMINGO.- With the start of the hurricane season, the Dominican Electricity Transmission Company (ETED) announced that it has launched its 2026 Institutional Contingency Plan, a strategy aimed at strengthening the response capacity of the electricity transmission network to possible atmospheric events that may affect the country.
The information was released by the Presidency of the Republic through a statement, which details that the measure seeks to guarantee the stability of the National Transmission System (STN) and reduce the risks of interruptions associated with meteorological phenomena.
Preparedness for possible emergencies
According to the statement, ETED has strengthened its prevention, monitoring and response mechanisms to protect one of the most important infrastructures for the functioning of the country.
The institution's executive vice president, Alfonso Rodríguez Tejada, assured that the company has the necessary resources to act in the face of any eventuality that may arise during the hurricane season.
“We are prepared to act quickly and efficiently in the event of any eventuality. Our commitment is to preserve the stability of the transmission system and contribute to national energy security throughout the hurricane season,” the official stated, according to information released by the President's office.
Continuous monitoring and operational centers
As part of the actions contemplated in the plan, ETED maintains continuous monitoring of the electrical grid through its Energy Control Center (CCE).
It also has 26 work centers strategically distributed in different provinces of the country, equipped with specialized technical personnel, vehicles, tools and materials intended to address possible emergencies that affect the transmission infrastructure.
Preventive maintenance and logistical preparation
The electric company reported that, prior to the start of the hurricane season, the company carried out a series of preventative works focused on reducing vulnerabilities within the system.
The actions carried out include maintenance work on electrical substations, specialized inspections of transmission lines, tree trimming in areas near electrical easements, and the supply of strategic materials to respond more quickly in case of damage.
The agency also urged the public to avoid construction and planting of large trees near transmission lines, as well as to cooperate with technical teams during emergency situations.
Key infrastructure for energy security
The activation of this plan is part of the preventive measures adopted by ETED to strengthen the resilience of the national electricity grid during a season that, historically, represents one of the greatest challenges for the country's energy infrastructure.
According to the published information, these actions aim to ensure that the transmission system operates safely and reliably, even under adverse weather conditions.
