The resolution sets out a series of actions aimed at optimizing consumption in government entities
SANTO DOMINGO– The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, called on public institutions, the business sector, and the population this Sunday to make more efficient and responsible use of electricity, given the persistence of high temperatures and projections that these conditions will continue throughout August, increasing the pressure on the national electrical system.
As part of these actions, the official reported that the Ministry of Energy and Mines launched the Government Energy Efficiency Plan: Guidelines and Action Manual, through Resolution R-MEM-ADM-019-2026, which establishes mandatory compliance measures for public institutions with the purpose of reducing unnecessary consumption and strengthening a culture of rational energy use.
Mandatory measures for public institutions
According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the resolution establishes a series of actions aimed at optimizing electricity consumption in government entities.
The measures include regulating the use of air conditioning systems, disconnecting electrical equipment that is not in use, scheduling high-consumption activities outside of peak demand hours, and continuously monitoring the results through quarterly reports.
The institution indicated that these guidelines are part of a strategy aimed at improving energy efficiency in the public sector and reducing electricity consumption without affecting the provision of services.
A call for the responsible use of energy
Minister Joel Santos argued that, given the weather conditions forecast for the coming weeks, the effort to reduce electricity consumption must involve not only the government, but also the private sector and the public.
In that regard, he urged the adoption of responsible consumption practices that contribute to reducing demand on the national electricity system, especially during periods of higher load caused by high temperatures.
They seek to strengthen the culture of energy efficiency
According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Government Energy Efficiency Plan seeks to consolidate an institutional culture focused on the rational use of electricity and promote better energy management practices within the public administration.
The entity indicated that the implementation of these measures will allow monitoring of the energy performance of institutions and progress towards a more efficient and sustainable consumption model.
Excessive consumption
In recent weeks the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) has broken records, confirming a trend of sustained growth in energy consumption during the summer and highlighting the pressure that generation and distribution networks face to respond to an ever-increasing demand.
The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, explained that this behavior is due to a combination of factors, including high temperatures, increased economic activity, and the addition of more households, businesses, and industries to electricity consumption.
