The CNMI was awarded the contract after leading the technical evaluation and submitting the lowest bid, according to the Ministry of the Presidency and FITRAM
Santo Domingo – The Santo Domingo monorail project enters a new phase. Following an evaluation process that combined technical and economic criteria with on-site verification, the National Consortium for Integrated Mobility (CNMI), comprised of Dominican and Mexican companies, was selected to carry out the first phase of the project.
According to information from the Ministry of the Presidency and the Trust for the Development of the Mass Transit System (FITRAM), the award covers the detailed engineering and construction of the infrastructure works and related systems of the project, considered key to reorganizing mobility in Greater Santo Domingo.
The result stems from a bidding process that included not only the review of bids but also visits to the bidders' facilities and ongoing projects. These inspections, carried out by commissions comprised of experts, technicians, and members of the Citizen Observation Committee, took place in cities such as Santiago and Monterrey, with the aim of validating the operational capacity of the participating companies on-site.
According to official data, CNMI obtained the highest technical score in the process, with 99.8 points, above the Santo Domingo Transport Consortium (CTSD), which reached 97.4. This was added to an economic offer of RD$28,985 million, the lowest among those presented, which influenced the final decision.
The process, which began in 2025, involved the participation of external experts appointed by academic institutions such as INTEC and PUCMM, at the request of the Ministry of the Presidency, as well as a citizen observation committee, as part of the transparency mechanisms implemented.
The winning consortium is made up of the Mexican companies Constructora Moyeda and Hércules Construcciones de Monterrey, along with the Dominican companies Sanesto MG Ingeniería and Grupo Força Diseño & Ingeniería, with experience in railway works, road infrastructure and projects of high technical complexity.
A commitment to transforming the transport system
Beyond the construction process, the monorail is emerging as a key project to transform the transportation system in the capital. Its first phase includes a 10.5-kilometer extension with 12 stations, connecting Santo Domingo East with the National District, from Charles de Gaulle Avenue to the Olympic Center.
According to official projections, the system will benefit more than one million inhabitants and will have the capacity to move up to 306,000 passengers daily, integrating with lines 1 and 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro as part of the Integrated Transportation System.
With the award now finalized, the next step will be the signing of the contract, once the corresponding administrative requirements have been completed, thus giving way to the start of a project that seeks to redefine urban mobility in the city.
