SANTO DOMINGO – The race to develop more secure identity documents is no longer exclusive to the major technological powers. The Dominican Republic has just received international recognition that places it within this conversation, after its new electronic passport was distinguished as the best new series of travel documents in Latin America.
The information was released by the Presidency, which reported that the document received the High Security Printing Latin America Award, in the Best New ID/Travel Document Series category, during the annual High Security Printing Latin America conference, held in Guatemala.
According to the entity, the jury evaluated the passport's design, the incorporation of advanced identity protection technologies and its physical and electronic security mechanisms, intended to reduce the risks of counterfeiting and strengthen international authentication processes.
The award was received by the Director General of Passports, Lorenzo Ramírez, and by Daniel Ureña, president of Midas, the company that locally represents the consortium responsible for developing the security solutions implemented in the document.
Ramírez noted that this distinction constitutes international validation of the documentary modernization process promoted by the Dominican State and highlighted that the new passport incorporates security standards used in the most advanced identification systems.
According to the General Directorate of Passports, the award also strengthens the country's international projection in terms of innovation and identity protection, in a scenario where electronic documents are becoming increasingly relevant for mobility and global security.
