Tourism Minister David Collado delivered 30 trucks, 6 sweepers, and 6 tractors for waste collection to various mayors of municipalities with a tourism focus on Wednesday.
The equipment, acquired with an investment of more than 128 million pesos, is a contribution from the Ministry of Tourism to help in the collection of solid waste and to ensure that municipal districts with a tourist vocation are in better condition every day, according to a press release from the Presidency.
It notes that they were donated to municipalities and municipal districts of Punta Cana, Bayahíbe, San Pedro, Barahona, Cabrera, Samaná, Baní, among other coastal locations.
During the delivery, Collado reported that another 30 trucks and 20 more sweepers are already in the bidding process and will be delivered to other municipalities and coastal districts with a tourist focus.
The official recalled that in the first stage the Ministry of Tourism delivered 45 dump trucks to tourist destinations.
“Our vision is to support mayors and municipalities so they can work on solid waste collection and ensure that our districts with a tourist vocation are in better condition every day,” Collado said.
The donation of the equipment is part of an agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Ministry of Tourism is contributing approximately 86 million pesos to this delivery, while the Government of Japan, through JICA, contributed 41 million pesos.
