The influence of a trough and a mass of humid air will favor very heavy downpours, thunderstorms, possible hailstorms and intense gusts of wind in several areas of the country
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed seven provinces on yellow alert and maintains another 17, including the National District, on green alert, due to the weather conditions expected for this Thursday afternoon because of the influence of a trough at various levels of the troposphere and a mass of air with high humidity.
According to the bulletin from the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), both phenomena will favor the development of cloud cover accompanied by very heavy downpours, thunderstorms, possible hailstorms and intense gusts of wind in different areas of the national territory.
Rainfall could cause branches to fall and damage to structures in poor condition, mainly in provinces of the southwest regions, the border area, the Caribbean coastal area and the eastern plain, with a gradual extension towards the rest of the country.
Seven provinces on yellow alert
The provinces under yellow alert are Puerto Plata, Pedernales, Independencia, Bahoruco, Barahona, Espaillat and Santiago.
This category implies a higher level of caution due to the possibility that weather conditions may create situations that pose risks to the population.

Another 17 districts remain in green
Meanwhile, the COE maintains a green alert for Greater Santo Domingo, the National District, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, San Pedro de Macorís, Dajabón, San José de Ocoa, Valverde, La Romana, Azua, Peravia, La Altagracia, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña, Hermanas Mirabal and Monte Cristi.
The preventative alert aims to ensure that residents of these areas remain attentive to official bulletins and guidance from civil protection agencies, due to the evolving atmospheric conditions.
COE recommends avoiding rivers and spas
Given the risk of flash floods and inundations, the COE recommended that the population refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that have large volumes of water.
He also urged people not to use the resorts located in the provinces under alert, as a preventive measure against the possible effects of the rains.
Authorities urged citizens to stay informed through official channels and follow the recommendations of emergency agencies.
