SANTO DOMINGO.- Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Cable Car announced this Tuesday the temporary suspension of service to inspect an alarm detected by the infrastructure control system.
The information was released by the Metropolitan Transportation Company (EMT), which explained in a statement that the shutdown is due to a preventative review aimed at verifying the system's operation and ensuring the safety of operations.
According to the entity, the inspection is carried out during off-peak hours, when there is a lower influx of passengers, with the aim of reducing inconvenience to regular users of the service.
“This inspection has been scheduled during off-peak hours in order to minimize the impact on users and allow the safe restoration of service as soon as possible,” EMT said in a message posted on its social media channels.
A preventative measure
The company did not specify the exact time the temporary suspension would take place, nor the estimated time the technical inspection would take. However, it clarified that the measure was in response to an alarm detected by the cable car's monitoring and control system.
He explained that these types of procedures are part of the preventive protocols implemented to verify the correct functioning of the equipment and maintain the safety conditions required for the operation of the transportation system.
A key connection for thousands of users
Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Cable Car is one of the main means of transport integrated into the mobility system of the capital.
With an approximate extension of five kilometers, it connects sectors of Santo Domingo Norte, the National District and Santo Domingo Este through four stations: Gualey, Tres Brazos, Sabana Perdida and Charles de Gaulle.
In addition, the Gualey station allows a direct connection with the Eduardo Brito station of the Santo Domingo Metro, facilitating the daily movement of thousands of passengers between different points of Greater Santo Domingo.
