Doña Rosa died of a “sudden” heart attack

Former First Lady Rosa Altagracia Eulogia Gómez Arias, wife of former President Hipólito Mejía, passed away last night at the age of 82 after suffering a sudden heart attack at her residence. Doña Rosa, as she was popularly known, was rushed to the Abreu Clinic, where, according to Dr. José Joaquín Puello, every effort was made to revive her.

Central Bank kicks off Economic and Financial Week

The Governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), Héctor Valdez Albizu, inaugurated the eighth Economic and Financial Week organized by the institution. “This effort is motivated by our interest and that of 35 participating public and private institutions to promote interest in economic and financial issues, and at the same time, contribute to their understanding by Dominican children, youth, and adults,” he said in his opening address.

World Bank and Presidency visit Altos de la Riviera City;highlightswork developed by COPYMECON

A commission of technicians and consultants from the World Bank, experts in housing construction and from the Ministry of the Presidency of the Republic, visited the Ciudad Altos de la Reviera housing project, where some 2,400 units are being built, with a first stage of 1,168 of which 640 will be delivered by the National Housing Plan Happy Families, (PNVFF), launched by the government headed by President Luis Abinader Corona.

The presidents of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada; and Panama, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, meeting at the Alliance for Development in Democracy in San José, Costa Rica, signed the San José Declaration, reiterating their commitment to working on promoting concrete actions for the economic growth of their peoples, based on respect for human rights, sustainability, and democratic values.

Texas crude oil rises 7.1% and is above US$112

The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil rose 7.1% on Monday to $112.12 a barrel amid expectations that the European Union (EU) will ban Russian crude in retaliation for Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to data at the close of trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex), WTI futures contracts for April delivery gained $7.42 compared to the previous close.

Tunnels and overpasses will be closed for maintenance in Greater Santo Domingo

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced that from yesterday until next Saturday, it will be carrying out maintenance, cleaning, and electrical work on tunnels and overpasses in Greater Santo Domingo. Today, Tuesday, work will be done on the underpasses at Luperón and 30 de Mayo, the Duarte Highway and Los Beisbolistas, and the pedestrian bridges at Jacobo Majluta and La Isabela, and at Los Reyes Católicos and Avenida del Zoológico.

The Charles de Gaulle corridor will be inaugurated this Tuesday

President Luis Abinader will preside over the inauguration ceremony today, Tuesday, for the Charles de Gaulle corridor, which will be operated by the Consorcio Central Nacional Movimiento Choferil del Transporte (Mochotran), headed by Alfredo Pulinario (Cambita). The event will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the multipurpose hall of Sabana Perdida, Víctor Burgos Sports Club, Santo Domingo Norte, according to the President's Press Office.

Bank owners have only 27 days to submit their sworn statement

The Ministry of Finance, through the Directorate of Casinos and Gambling, reiterated to sports betting associations and private betting shop owners the obligation to submit their sworn statements requested on February 14 of this year. The institution indicated that these statements must include data on the betting shops and slot machines they own, whether or not they are properly registered. 

A plane with 132 people on board crashes in southern China

A China Eastern Boeing 737-800 crashed yesterday in China's southern Guangxi province with 132 people on board, in the worst civil aviation disaster in the Asian country since 2010. The plane, which was flying between the cities of Kunming (southwest) and Guangzhou (southeast), crashed with 123 passengers and 9 crew members on board, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said in a statement released several hours after the accident.

Zelensky says Ukraine will only accept aultimatum"when we are all dead"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that they will only accept a Russian ultimatum "when we are all dead," in response to Moscow's deadline for Ukrainian fighters in Mariupol to leave the city. "Ukraine can never comply with an ultimatum from the Russian Federation. We would all have to be dead, and only then would their ultimatum to surrender Kharkiv, Mariupol, or Kyiv be honored."
