The Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), Víctor "Ito" Bisonó, said yesterday, Monday, that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) generate more than two million formal and informal jobs in the Dominican Republic. "MSMEs contribute 38 percent of the Gross Domestic Product, generate more than a third of formal employment, and, added to informal employment, employ more than two million people who get up every day to build a better Dominican Republic," Bisonó said at an event held for International MSME Day.

A novel medical project, focused on specialized and general health services, but with an emphasis on three highly sensitive medical areas in the Dominican Republic—mental health, geriatrics, and substance abuse (Detox)—has been conceived by a group of Dominican physicians and entrepreneurs. The Specialized Treatment Center (CETRATE), with a capacity of 250 beds and 94 consultation rooms, is scheduled to begin construction in the coming weeks on a 202,000-square-meter site designated for development and expansion. It will be located on the Duarte Highway in El Pinito, La Vega.

The agency made the decision after the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) predicted heavy rains during the night and early morning hours of Monday due to the passage of a tropical wave and the influence of a trough. The provinces under green alert are: Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez, and Greater Santo Domingo.
