The Dominican Republic Rebuilds Plan has impacted the lives of thousands of families throughout the Dominican territory with the intervention of more than 26,000 housing units nationwide.
PUERTO PLATA.- As part of the Dominican Republic Rebuilds Plan, the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) delivered several homes here to low-income families residing in the community of El Javillar, raising the number of homes intervened in the North region to more than 7,600.
Ten families from the aforementioned community improved their living conditions by benefiting from the program carried out by MIVHED since August 2020, which aims to contribute to dignifying the lives of families with insufficient income to opt for other plans launched by the Government.
Among the beneficiaries of the restored or new houses is 73-year-old Carmen Cruz, whose home was built from scratch. She recounted that she has lived in this community of El Javillar for more than 20 years and had never received help until MIVHED verified her situation and changed her quality of life forever.
“I was afraid they would break into my house, because it was in a sorry state. I had to keep putting bits of zinc and boards on the back. I was living in constant fear,” declared Doña Carmen Cruz.
The Deputy Minister of Administration and Finance of the Presidency, Igor Rodríguez, stated that it is a social responsibility of the current Government to ensure that Dominicans have a better way of life.
He explained that President Luis Abinader entrusted MIVEHD with the responsibility of offering solutions from the institution to society, working to ensure that Dominicans have a dignified life and a dignified place to live.
Ginette Bournigal, senator for the province of Puerto Plata, highlighted that the government is working to give people a different quality of life.
“We are here with you to give you the attention you need. This is extremely important because this is a government that thinks about what people need, which is to live in acceptable conditions that guarantee their health,” Bournigal added.
Also present during the handover were Claritza Rochtte; Ney García, Vice Minister of MIVED; Dany Santos, Vice Minister of Construction, among other directors of the institution.

Dominicana se Reconstruye is a plan whose central objective is to dignify and improve the lives of Dominicans, creating safe housing for all families in vulnerable situations and with which it projects to benefit some 30,000 families and generate 6,800 direct jobs to help boost the country's economy.
