When the essence of a real estate agent gets tired: Don't give up

If you're reading this, it's likely that the passion that once ignited your heart has been dimmed by the weight of a relentless market. Perhaps, as happened to me a few weeks ago, you feel that exhaustion has become a permanent fixture, that your goals seem like a mirage, and that the urge to throw in the towel outweighs the desire to keep going.

This column is a supportive embrace for you, who have given your best and now feel your strength waning.

My primary role is as a public relations officer for a development company, but my path has led me through intense periods working directly with clients and supporting other agents like you. I know firsthand what it's like to work late, deal with uncertainty, and feel the relentless pressure. I understand the weight of deadlines and the frustration of a deal falling through. That's why I'm writing to you: I know you've found strength you didn't know you had to keep going, and that now, perhaps, you feel you can't go on anymore.

The paradox of being an agent: between excitement and exhaustion.

This profession is a whirlwind of emotions. On the one hand, we are architects of dreams, witnesses to the joy of a family moving into their new home, or builders of heritage. That is the bright side, the one that motivates us to get up every morning.

But the other side is rougher: a rollercoaster of challenges, fierce competition, indecisive customers, a constantly changing market, and income uncertainty.

It's no wonder this environment pushes us to our limits, generating chronic stress, anxiety, or even the dreaded burnout. It's crucial to understand that this exhaustion isn't a sign of weakness, but a human response to a profession that demands more than we often acknowledge. And accepting our vulnerability is the first step toward finding our center again.

Rediscovering your balance

It's not all chaos. There are ways to regain control and prevent work from completely consuming your life. And no, we're not talking about empty motivational phrases, but concrete decisions:

Set healthy boundaries: Define realistic schedules and stick to them. Allow yourself to disconnect. A daily digital detox, even for just 15 minutes, can give you the clarity you need to solve problems without the constant pressure of the screen.

Prioritize your well-being: Your body and mind are the driving force behind your business. Exercise, good nutrition, and restful sleep aren't luxuries; they're essential. If your energy reserves are depleted, you can't expect to perform at your best.

Return to your purpose: In the darkest days, the key isn't always to work harder, but to remember why you started. What brought you here? The desire to help? To build community? To see the happiness in your customers' eyes? That initial spark is your beacon in the midst of the storm.

Sending you a hug of encouragement, I want to end by sharing some verses from one of my favorite poems, "Don't Give Up," by Mario Benedetti:

“Don't give up, please don't give in,

even though the cold burns,

even if fear bites,

even if the sun hides

and let the wind be still,

There is still fire in your essence,

There is still life in your dreams.”

These verses remind me of the resilience of the human spirit: that force that drives us to rise even when all seems lost. A reminder that, despite external challenges, the flame of your purpose remains alive.

May these words find you wherever you are and help you hold fast to the conviction that there are still dreams to fulfill. Don't give up.
