Vision and goals: Keys to growth in real estate

By Raquel Salas

Special for El Inmobiliario

On December 17th, we concluded a significant quarter of the Time To Grow comprehensive growth program for real estate agents with the intensive workshop "Design Your Roadmap to the Future." In this virtual gathering, I had the honor of sharing the space with Reyna Echenique and Osman González, two industry professionals whom I admire for their experience. This workshop was not only a source of inspiration but also motivated me to create a series of articles that follow the same structure. I believe it is essential, in these times, to be intentional in reviewing and balancing our lives.

We begin the training by emphasizing the importance of self-knowledge and clarity in our life's purpose. Do you know yourself well enough? Is your life's purpose clear?

Before continuing with the reading, I invite you to look inside yourself until you are clear that you also know yourself.

Vision versus goals

In this series, I will focus on reviewing our vision and setting clear goals. It is crucial to understand the difference between vision and goals; these concepts are often confused. A vision is a picture of what we wish to achieve, a reflection of our ideal future. In contrast, goals are concrete steps that move us closer to that vision. These should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

To set a goal effectively, it's essential to take time to reflect on our dreams and aspirations. Ask yourself: What are you passionate about? In your work within the real estate sector, what do you enjoy most and what do you excel at? Do you like presenting projects, creating content and promoting them on social media, connecting personally with clients, managing lead generation, handling administration, or training teams? These questions are vital, as the real estate market is broad enough for each of us to find our ideal niche, where we can leverage our gifts and talents.

Identifying our values

Once you've reflected on your dreams and are confident in them, it's crucial to identify your values. You might ask yourself: What do my values have to do with goal setting? A lot! Having clarity about your values will help you set clear boundaries and avoid the trap of thinking that the ends justify the means. When you know your non-negotiables, you can discern which paths to follow and which to avoid to make your dreams a reality. Furthermore, it's important to define the kind of future you want in 5 or 10 years. This exercise will give you a clear vision and allow you to set appropriate goals.

From vision to action

Every year, I like to create a vision board and often recommend it to my coaching clients. However, I always emphasize that simply looking at the images won't make things happen. The board is a reminder of what you want, but if you don't get up every morning to work toward your dreams, nothing will change. The key to success lies in perseverance and passion. Every step you take toward your goals should be infused with a genuine desire to improve yourself. Don't let obstacles derail you; instead, see them as opportunities to learn and grow.

The power of collaboration

I recommend surrounding yourself with people who share your vision and inspire you. Collaboration and mutual support can be powerful catalysts on your journey. Share your dreams and goals with those around you, and don't hesitate to seek mentorship. The synergy created in a positive environment can open doors you never imagined.

I want to close with a quote attributed to Franklin D. Roosevelt: "The only limit to our recognition tomorrow will be our doubts today." In our pursuit of success, let us confront our doubts and move forward with determination toward the future we wish to build.
