Vice President and Ministry of Housing deliver remodeled emergency room in San Pedro de Macorís

SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS– With a projected impact on more than 40 communities in the area and an investment of 15 million pesos, the Government yesterday delivered the renovated emergency unit of the Dr. Alejo Martínez García Hospital, in the municipality of Ramón Santana, in this province.

Raquel Peña, Vice President of the Republic, and the Minister of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), Carlos Bonilla, led the ceremony for the handover of the infrastructure, which has 161 meters and will be under the responsibility of the National Health Service, for its immediate operation.

It has two adult observation beds, triage, nebulization, treatment area, admissions, nursing station, pediatrics, among other spaces.

The Vice President of the Republic indicated that strengthening the infrastructure of the Dominican health system is a priority for the Government, so that citizens have access to free, quality services.

“The experience we gained from COVID-19 further highlights the importance of having strong healthcare systems, prepared to respond to any eventuality. For this reason, the Dominican government, led by President Luis Abinader, has undertaken the task of strengthening the healthcare system in all its aspects, making it reliable and accessible to the entire population,” Peña stated.

The Minister of MIVED highlighted the potential of the emergency unit, emphasizing its modernity, the necessary medical equipment, and an improved layout, "thus demonstrating that the well-being of our people is our priority and that we have not stopped for a minute in building a better future for all Dominicans," Bonilla stated.

The Dr. Alejo Martínez García Hospital, in addition to being of great importance to the municipality of Ramón Santana, will also impact more than 40 surrounding communities that previously only had emergency services at the Dr. Antonio Musa General Hospital in the province of San Pedro de Macorís.

Following the opening, both officials toured the health center facilities to verify that they were in perfect condition, accompanied by the Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, Mario Lama, Director General of the National Health Service (SNS), Aracelis Villanueva, Governor of the province, among other attending authorities.
