SANTO DOMINGO.- Representatives of the Uber platform and traditional taxi drivers reached an agreement this Friday to end conflicts over passengers in different tourist areas of the country.
“We are very pleased to announce that taxi operators in the Punta Cana area affiliated with Codotatur will be able to leverage Uber’s app technology to continue transporting passengers in Punta Cana. By registering as driver-partners, they will be able to increase their earning potential and, in turn, continue to boost the local economy, which is key to this important tourism sector. This agreement confirms that together we can achieve great strides toward mobility innovation in the Dominican Republic,” said Sylvia Alvarado, Uber for the Caribbean, Central America, and the Andes.
The signing of the agreement was described as momentous by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.
"Today we have some good news. The disturbances at airports, ports, and tourist routes in the Dominican Republic are a thing of the past," Collado stated
