The Government will not apply any further increases to the electricity tariff
President Luis Abinader announced yesterday that his government would no longer implement the electricity rate increases approved in the National Pact for the Reform of the Electricity Sector in February 2021, and asked the Economic and Social Council (CES) to convene the social, economic, and political sectors to adapt it to the new global circumstances.
The parking lots in the capital would be ready next year
Some were operating excavators, while others were adjusting pieces of wood. This was how the workers, part of the team in charge of building a parking garage as part of the government's strategy to reduce traffic congestion in the country, divided their tasks yesterday morning. The work is being carried out in the parking area of the main headquarters of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) and is a project called "Centro de los Héroes 1" (Heroes Center 1), undertaken by the Ministry of Public Works in partnership with ParquéaT RD. The garage will have 93 parking spaces per level.

Sales and exports in the industrial sector continue to grow
The local manufacturing sector continues to exhibit remarkable performance across all its economic indicators, according to the May edition of the Local Manufacturing Outlook Report published by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and SMEs (MICM). According to the country's governing body for local industry, and based on data from the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII), the sector reached RD$336,669 million in sales during the first four months of the year, representing a 23.0% increase compared to the same period in 2021.

The price of crude oil rose 1.6% on Tuesday, closing at $104.22 a barrel and stabilizing above $100 in a volatile session. At the close of trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex), WTI futures contracts for August delivery, which expire tomorrow, gained $1.62 compared to the previous close.
Helados Bon will build a new processing plant to increase production
The challenges facing the ice cream manufacturing sector in order to continue expanding within the country and successfully export to the United States, the Caribbean, and other regions with attractive markets were explained by Helados Bon executives to the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs (MICM), Víctor Bisonó, during a visit the minister made to the company's production plant in the Herrera Industrial Zone. The general manager of Helados Bon indicated that the company will increase its production and operations for both local and international markets with the construction of a new processing plant on a site of between 5,000 and 10,000 square meters, representing a $6 million investment and generating more than 150 direct jobs.
The Dominican Republic needs a water management plan due to climate change
The impacts of climate change, manifested in natural disasters and severe droughts, must be addressed immediately with short- and medium-term planning. This plan should include reforestation of major watersheds, increased water reservoir capacity, sediment removal from dams, and the passage of a Water Law free of any hidden privatization provisions. This proposal comes from geologist Osiris de León, who asserts that if the Dominican State adopts this model, the country could emerge less severely affected by the challenges posed by climate change within its socioeconomic context.
