SANTO DOMINGO –Sky High Dominicana, Sky Cana, and Arajet are the three airlines with which the Dominican Republic hopes to further strengthen the country's air connectivity and consolidate its operations. Hence their participation in the 43rd edition of FITUR, the International Tourism Fair, which will take place from the 18th to the 22nd of this month in Madrid, Spain.
“This is the first time the country has participated with 3 national airlines and with the clear objective of creating new links for Dominican aviation from markets of great importance to the Dominican Republic,” said the president of the JAC, José Ernesto Marte Piantini, during a meeting with the executives of these companies.
Marte Piantini added that with Sky High Dominicana, Sky Cana and Arajet, “we seek to expand the connectivity of the Dominican territory by promoting flights to and from the Dominican Republic and the rest of the region, given that Fitur is a global benchmark event for tourism and for national civil aviation is a great opportunity for the country's economic development.”.
He explained that commercial cooperation agreements could be produced through code-sharing, which allows airlines to each operate one leg of a route.
For its part, Sky High is preparing to present its new destinations at Fitur, as well as those it will open in the next three months. “We are focused on showcasing multi-destination travel, to demonstrate to Europe that it can come to Santo Domingo and from there travel to the rest of the region,” explained Cesarina Beauchamp, an executive at Sky High.
While Arajet will have information available on the 17 destinations it serves from Santo Domingo, it is looking to expand its operations with airlines that fly transatlantic and are interested in making connections, explained Víctor Pichardo, CEO of the company.
Similarly, Frank Díaz, CEO of Sky Cana, explained that they are looking for long-haul operations to complement their current services in the Dominican market.
