SANTO DOMINGO.- The Ministry of Public Health issued resolution number 000069, which establishes that the COVID vaccination card with three doses will be required in public places from January 31, 2022.
The document published by Public Health on Monday afternoon indicates that the third dose can be administered "30 days after the person has received the second dose.".
Furthermore, authorities indicated that the fourth dose would initially be administered to healthcare and pharmacy personnel, as well as members of the Armed Forces who remain on the front lines of COVID-19 infection. This first phase would also include people over 60 years of age and those who are immunocompromised, meaning those with diabetes, hypertension, obesity, asthma, cardiovascular disease, kidney failure, and cancer. Additionally, teachers, journalists, and individuals requiring the vaccine due to a specific medical condition are also included in this initial phase.
Authorities also revealed that the Ministry of Public Health may grant a special permit for those who cannot receive the vaccine for medical reasons or for pregnant women less than 16 weeks pregnant.
The resolution indicates that the fourth dose is currently optional for the general population, and therefore does not establish a specific date to begin the vaccination process with the fourth dose.
Earlier, President Luis Abinader held an emergency meeting with the Health Cabinet to address everything related to the virus that has claimed the lives of more than 4,000 people in the Dominican Republic alone.
The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, described today what the implementation plan would be for the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and the omicron variant.
“Heterologous vaccination means combining vaccines; if you had two AstraZeneca vaccines, you should get Pfizer; if you had two Sinovac vaccines, you should combine them,” Rivera cited as an example.
“In my case, I’m going to use Pfizer because I had two doses of Sinovac and one of Pfizer , and I can easily use the booster dose with Pfizer,” she said.
“Those who are already vaccinated, and especially those who have received their third dose, will have a very mild clinical picture, although it has been categorized that Omicron causes mild cases,” Rivera.
