They will set up an operation at chaotic points on highways to reduce accidents during the Easter holiday

SANTO DOMINGO- Boca Chica, Las Terrenas, Cabarete, Jarabacoa, Cruce de Ocoa and Los Pilones on the Sánchez Highway will be the places where the authorities in charge of traffic and land transportation in the country will set up special operations, because these are spaces that become chaotic during Holy Week and other holidays.

The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) and the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) announced that they will begin a traffic regulation operation starting Wednesday to reduce accidents.

Hugo Veras, director of INTRANT, explained that this strategic intervention is in places with a high impact on accident rates, due to the high volume of traffic on holidays.

He said the operation starts on Wednesday at 2:00 PM and runs until Sunday at 6:00 PM.

Beras reported that the operation is part of "Conscience for Life," which is carried out every year by the Emergency Operations Center (COE), which seeks to reinforce safety on the country's highways.

He explained that the operation he will carry out together with Digesett includes the use of 20 trucks, cranes, motorcycles and all the military personnel of INTRANT, as well as administrative personnel and dozens of agents of DIGESETT.

He stated that special attention will be paid to critical accident points, located on the Duarte, Las Américas and 6 de Noviembre highways, as well as the Sánchez highway, the Eastern highway, the Coral highway, Gregorio Luperón, the Northeast highway, the Mella highway, the Gregorio Luperón highway and the Enriquillo highway.

Detours and alternate routes

In that regard, the governing body for transit and land transport announced that detours will be implemented and an alternative route plan is planned to facilitate traffic, in coordination with the municipalities.

Regarding the transport of children during Holy Week, Beras requested the responsible use of child restraint systems for their protection against any incident or impact on the road, and recommended that parents or guardians carefully check their child's car seat before leaving home.
