SANTO DOMINGO- The RD 100% Renewable Coalition urged the Government to launch "without further delays and without further hesitation" a massive plan to install solar panels on roofs, as many countries around the world are doing.
He argued that with this delay, the Government is missing the opportunity to incorporate citizens into producing clean electricity at a low price and at the same time reduce the electricity subsidy, two strategic objectives of the country's current public policy on energy.
He reported that months ago he delivered to the Electric Cabinet a plan that he developed together with the Ministry of Energy and Mines to massively install solar panels on the roofs of popular sectors with the joint financing of the cooperatives and the Government.
He also announced that he is in a dialogue process with the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE) regarding the draft of a new regulation that will govern Distributed Electricity Generation, for the placement of solar panels on roofs.
He explained that without new regulations that facilitate, promote, and guarantee the installation of solar panels on roofs, a clean and affordable electricity revolution cannot be achieved.
“For several weeks we have been discussing with the SIE how to create a new regulation that truly promotes the mass installation of solar panels, shortening the tortuous steps that currently have to be taken for this, and modernizing guidelines that the current regulation has that do not make sense,” the entity explained.
The entity described how it is unnecessary to conduct supplementary studies based on 15% solar penetration in electrical circuits, given that a report by GIZ, in conjunction with government electricity sector institutions, already clearly states that 50% should be allowed in urban areas and 30% in rural areas before initiating any supplementary studies.
