SANTO DOMINGO- From Monday the 1st until Saturday the 6th of September, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) will close several overpasses and bridges in Greater Santo Domingo to vehicular traffic, due to maintenance work being carried out by brigades of the institution.
The work begins at 10:00 PM and continues until completion in each case. It includes general cleaning of the surrounding area, collection of solid waste, sweeping and removal of debris, weed control, drainage cleaning, and other tasks.
From Monday to Wednesday, maintenance will be carried out on the overpass at John F. Kennedy Avenue and Doctor Defilló.
From Monday to Thursday there will be a total closure in the tunnel of 27 de Febrero Avenue with Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill, for painting work.
Maintenance will only be performed on Monday on the overpasses of the Duarte highway with Los Beisbolistas and Monumental avenues; the tunnel of Núñez de Cáceres avenue and the Jacobo Majluta bridge over the Isabela river.
Also at the overpasses of Mirador Sur Avenue with Italia, Núñez de Cáceres with Cayetano Germosén, Independencia and George Washington, and at Jacobo Majluta with La Isabela road.
On Tuesday, the brigades continue with the overpasses on Luperón Avenue with the 30 de Mayo highway, Charles de Gaulle Avenue with the highway to San Isidro and the Mella road and the Duarte highway with Duarte street, and the overpass at Kilometer 14 of the Duarte highway.
Wednesday and Thursday are maintenance days for the Ortega y Gasset Avenue tunnel.
The work to be carried out on Wednesday night involves the closure of the Máximo Gómez overpasses with Nicolás de Ovando, the Ortega y Gasset underpasses with 27 de Febrero, Máximo Gómez with Duarte Avenue, the Gregorio Luperón bridges, and over the Ozama River, on Charles de Gaulle Avenue.
The closures for Thursday involve the overpasses of the Quinto Centenario Expressway with Duarte Avenue, Hermanos Pinzón Street and San Martín Avenue, Sánchez Highway with Independencia Avenue (Kilometer 12), the Jacobo Majluta bridge (near the entrance to Guaricano), and the Konrad Adenauer Avenue underpass with Hermanas Mirabal.
Also on Thursday to the control centers of the Las Américas tunnel.
On Friday, the following will be closed: the bridges on the 6 de Noviembre highway, the Sánchez road and Ramón Matías Mella, the overpasses on the Prolongación 27 de Febrero avenue with the 6 de Noviembre highway, the Padre Castellanos with the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez avenue, the overpasses on the Winston Churchill avenue with Kennedy (both directions) and the Las Américas corridor.
The closures for Saturday correspond to the overpasses of San Vicente de Paul with Venezuela, Kennedy with Luperón Avenue (Kilometer 9), the Duarte highway at kilometers 13 and 14.
Public Works recommends that drivers plan their routes in advance and respect the detours while the night maintenance work is underway.
