Designed by the Zaha Hadid, the foundations and underground works of the Taikang Financial Center in Wuhan were completed at the end of April 2023, in a project where three new interconnected skyscrapers take a circular shape, covering an area of 266,000 square meters.
Founded in 1996, Taikang Insurance Group grew to become one of the largest providers of insurance, asset management, health and elderly care in China.
The new Taikang Financial Center will be a center of excellence, housing teams of leading professionals who collaborate with civic, academic, and corporate institutions to develop effective systems and networks that will provide a new ecosystem of support for people of all ages across China.
These three new interconnected skyscrapers are part of the urban master plan for the Hankou Riverside business district, which integrates the Yangtze River Park and wetlands to the east, as well as the city's new Central Park to the south.
These new public parks are an integral part of Wuhan's sponge city program, which allows for the natural storage and infiltration of rainwater to delay its release and help prevent flooding while also facilitating its reuse.
Tower One of the complex (located in the center) is 52 stories high, while Tower Two (which faces the river) has 47 stories and Tower Three (which offers views of the park) has 50 stories.
Shops and restaurants on the ground floor and in the lobby surround the landscaped courtyard, which extends vertically like an urban canyon between the three towers. Additional public spaces and amenities are located on skybridges connecting the towers on the upper floors, including the rooftop garden terrace offering panoramic views of the city and the Yangtze River valley.
Incorporating offices, apartments, hotels, shops and food services along with cultural and recreational facilities, the center will house more than 20,000 people.
The circular design of the three new interconnected skyscrapers provides shade during the day. Water consumption will be reduced through low-flow fixtures and the planting of drought-tolerant native vegetation.
Another architectural project that stands out in the Chinese landscape, with its sights set on opening in 2025.
